Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are used to correct facial imperfections caused by ageing, normally evidenced by thinning of the skin, folds and wrinkle lines appearing. Fillers are also used to enhance natural beauty by creating augmentation and enhancements to lips, cheeks and chin. Fillers can also be used to replenish fat loss to the skin creating more volume and a fuller face.

The choice of filler requires careful consideration and Dr Premrajh will advise at the time of your consultation which dermal filler is best suited to your skin appearance and the effect that you wish to create.

At The Clinique we can provide a range of dermal fillers to suit your needs. Dermal fillers are a form of hyaluronic acid that naturally occurs in your skin. We ensure that these products have been properly tested to be safe and effective, approved and widely used, before we offer them to our clients.

How it works

Your skin consists of upper and lower layers, which support our naturally created Hyaluronic Acid (HA) gel. Dermal fillers consist of man-made HA that behaves like the naturally produced HA. Over the years, the amount of naturally produced HA is depleted as we grow older. By injecting the dermal filler into the target area we can replenish the HA reserves, creating a more youthful and/or enhanced appearance.

Questions and answers

How long does it take for the treatments to work?
Results can be seen immediately.

How long does the treatment last for?
For facial smoothening, the dermal fillers are gradually broken down after 9 to 12 months. Lip enhancements last for 6 to 12 months depending on the individual and the number of previous treatments undertaken.

How often will I need to top-up?
Most patients who choose to have top-ups, do so when they feel the effect starting to wear off i.e. anytime between 6 and 12 months.

Are there any side effects?
Yes. After the injections there is the possibility of temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, itching, and discoloration of skin around the injected area. This could last for 1 to 2 days after the injections and occasionally, 1 to 2 further days for injections into the lips.

Who is unsuitable for dermal fillers?
We will not treat clients who are pregnant or currently breast-feeding.

What happens if I do not have a top-up?
Correction of the wrinkles and the enhanced lip effect will subside gradually until your skin looks like it did before the treatment.
